Training budgets keep growing and behaviour keeps not changing. The problem is rarely the content — it is the shape of the intervention.
The one-day workshop problem
A single session, disconnected from measured need and followed by nothing, reliably produces enthusiasm that decays within a fortnight. This is not a motivation failure; it is what the forgetting curve predicts.
Three changes that help
- Measure first. Assess the competency before designing the programme, so you train the gap rather than the topic that was easy to buy.
- Space the sessions. Four two-hour sessions across a month beat one eight-hour day, every time.
- Give the manager a role. If the participant's manager cannot say what should look different next month, nothing will.
Re-measure
Then assess again. Without a second measurement you have an opinion about your training, not evidence.
